Eda Beans

I made the mistake of correcting Erika's "お味噌汁" (o-miso-shiru) into its English equivalent: "mis soup". And now I'm not allowed to say edamame (枝豆） anymore and I have to say "eda beans".

Whatever you call them, I don't know if you are supposed to eat the shell or just the beans. Shouldn't that be "miso" soup?
