At 3am this morning there was a rousing announcement of "Daddy!" outside the bedroom door. Let me 'splain.
For approximately the last 9 months, Erika has needed an adult in her presence to fall asleep, which is kind of a drag for the adults in question. So we started "sleep training" a couple of days ago where we leave her in the bedroom, and despite much piteous crying hold the door shut. The first day it took about 30 minutes, and yesterday only about 10.
Now, everyone sort of semi-wakes up several times a night, and young children even more often. Most folks just fall back asleep, but Erika first checks for the comforting presence of Mommy, and only then falls back asleep. Last night there was no Mommy, so she woke all the way up and went to the most likely place to have friendly adults. Presumably she called out to Daddy because Daddy is a big softie and Mommy had been a big meanie with this whole "fall asleep by yourself" nonsense.
Anyway, to make a long story short, in a matter of minutes she was back in her bed asleep, and the situation resolved itself amicably, except for Daddy's lack of sleep today.
