So it turns out the building across the street from us is being demolished. As that means a new building is going to be built, the $64,000 question is whether the new building blocks the view or not. Yoshie has been chanting "not over 30 stories... not over 30 stories..." at it. Unfortunately, it looks like the chants were ineffective. Larry Silverstein of WTC fame is evidently building a 58 (or 60 or 68, depending on the source) building featuring 20 stories of luxury hotel and above that condos. The good news, as it were, is that the building is scheduled for completion in 2011 so, with luck, we'll be long gone by the time it finishes. The bad news is that we can probably look forward to the melifluous sounds of power equipment wafting lightly through the air for some time.
