So, we (Yoshie and I) went to see Phish at Madison Square Garden this Wednesday. It is a trial to stand up through two 90 minute sets of music, but everyone in the arena did. It is apparently the height of great fun to bring bagfuls of glowsticks and throw them gleefully into the audience, since lots of people were doing that. Also to bounce beachballs and other inflatables (notably an inflatable dreidel), although those are not nearly so annoying when they bonk you on the head. However they have a longer life since they are bounced from person to random person whereas the glow sticks tend to get thrown once and land on the ground. To be fair, some enterprising souls would collect glowsticks and re-throw them, but that was sort of the exception.
Yoshie was shocked that the audience appeared to be approximately 100% White, in contrast to your normal New York cosmopolitan scene.
